About the Project

Welcome to Healthy Hearts, a community-driven project dedicated to helping you make positive lifestyle changes to improve your heart health. Our goal is to empower you to take control of your health and live a longer, healthier life.

At Healthy Hearts, we believe that reducing health inequalities and improving heart health starts with the community.

Over the years, we’ve seen how important it is to work alongside residents to create lasting change.

At the heart of our programme is a team of Resident Providers—local individuals passionate about improving their community's health and well-being.

These dedicated residents work to inspire people, provide support, and guide them towards adopting healthier life choices with a particular focus on heart health.

What is a Resident Provider and what do they do?

Resident Provider is a local individual who has strong connections within their community and a passion for improving the lives of others. If you are well-connected in your community and want to support others to make healthier choices, we’d love to work with you!

Resident Providers could be:

  • Those who already run community projects
  • People passionate about walking or other forms of physical activity
  • Individuals who have made positive lifestyle changes themselves and want to help others do the same

By collaborating with Resident Providers, we aim to:

  • Encourage residents to engage with Haringey Council’s free healthy living services.

  • Motivate participants to complete these services and maintain healthy habits now and in the future.

  • Provide ongoing support to residents even after they've completed the services.

How Can I Become a Resident Provider?

Becoming a Resident Provider is an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful impact in your community while receiving training, support, and funding. Through the Haringey Resident Fund, people who live or work in the borough can apply to become a Resident Provider.

As part of the programme, Resident Providers receive:

  • Training to equip you with the knowledge and skills needed to support others

  • Support from service providers to ensure you have the resources you need

  • Funding up to £2,000 to help you carry out your work and reach more residents

  • Career development support, including signposting to further opportunities for those interested in progressing their career

Whether you're already working on a community project or passionate about helping others improve their health, becoming a Resident Provider could be the perfect opportunity for you. With your help, we can make steps towards making Haringey healthier.

Round 3 of our Resident Provider selection has now closed.

Why does it matter?

Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the 2nd highest cause of death in Haringey (after all cancers), with Black and Minority Ethnic communities most affected.

Yet research shows that making positive lifestyle changes such as being physically active, maintaining a healthy weight, and stopping smoking can help heart health and prevent CVD.
