Important to note that misinformation can be easily spread. This can happen for many reasons, including information becoming quickly outdated, or unconfirmed messages passing by word-of mouth. If you want to help by spreading helpful messages to your community, always share up-to-date information from official sources, such as the channels suggested here
How to communicate with other colleagues supporting the community Expand Joining local networks can be useful for mutual help and sharing information. Haringey has a long list of networks and forums that you can join. Online communities such as NavNet can be helpful in an emergency. NavNet is a community made up of people who work in Haringey and whose combined knowledge is channelled to support each other to help Haringey residents. Haringey Council Racial Equity Group Expand Our Chief Executive, Geoffrey Ocen and Haringey Council CEO co-founded and co-chaired this group. This group is shaping the collective efforts of key agencies and community partners in our work to challenge and dismantle the systems, structures, and behaviours that perpetuate racism. Our Chief Executive was instrumental in developing a borough-wide Racial Equity Action Plan adopted by the Council, NHS, and VCS, placing the social determinants of health and amplifying the voices of racially marginalised communities at the heart of collective action.
Haringey Racial Equity Group in Health and Social Care Expand This group was co-founded by our Chief Executive, Geoffrey Ocen and the CEO of North Middlesex Hospital, who both now chair the group. The Haringey Racial Equity Group in Health and Social Care is a key initiative within Haringey Council's efforts to address racial inequalities in the borough. It operates under the North Central London Integrated Care System framework and focuses on reducing disparities in access to, experience of, and outcomes from health and social care services. The group collaborates with community partners to challenge systemic racism and promote a more equitable system for all residents. Focus Areas: Challenging Systemic Racism Creating Equitable Systems Improving Well-being Addressing Health Inequalities: Promoting Diversity and Inclusion Accessible and Culturally Responsive Services: Developing Anti-Racist Policies and Practices, including an anti-racist statement for children's services, and developing anti-racist practice standards. Collaborative Approach: works with key agencies and community partners to shape the collective efforts to address racial equity. Involving Residents: actively engages residents and communities in service planning, development, and delivery. Using Data and Insights: utilises data-led insights to understand residents' needs better and improve service delivery. Advocating for Resources: advocates for high-quality local services that are adequately funded to meet the needs of all residents. North London Central Integrated Care Board Expand We work strategically with North London Central Integrated Care Board on several different areas: Placement, Population Health, People’s Health, and Community Services boards; VCSE Alliance Group; community engagement projects and health promotion, prostate cancer, cervical and other long-term conditions such as Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), targeting BAME communities.
