We recently joined up with local community activist Hesketh Benoit and his team from Haringey Basketball for All to deliver a series of events on men's health.

Fifty men joined in the lively discussions.

The series kicked off with a mental health session led by Hesketh and Tottenham Talking, which created space for honest conversations about well-being. This was followed up with a talk on physical health with local sports therapist Ricardo Johnson, who got everyone moving, a nutritionist explained healthy eating, and our Community Support Worker, Joanne, shed light on support available for long-term conditions.

With one in four Black men diagnosed with prostate cancer in the UK and the incidence rising in the borough, our final event of the series focused on prostate health. For this session, we were joined by a Macmillan Cancer Support Radiographer and a Support Worker who discussed signs and symptoms, screening, and support services available.

A powerful and moving testimony from a man who had experienced cancer himself highlighted to the men present that early detection can save lives.

All three events demonstrated the need for safe spaces where men can speak openly about the issues that affect them.

One man summed up the importance of the sessions by saying:

"I enjoyed the room's openness, honesty and intelligent wisdom."
