When crisis hits, nobody should have to wait months for help. That’s why Tottenham Talking exists - an immediate, free, and compassionate mental health support at the heart of our community.

Recently, Robert Pike experienced first-hand the power of the programme as a lifeline. In 2023, Robert faced a mental health crisis that nearly cost him his life. He found Tottenham Talking, who was available to support him straight away, welcoming him into art classes, mindful writing, and men’s walk-and-talk sessions, helping him feel less alone.

"The pressures of the employment sector, the grind, the expectation to hold everything together at home and have last-minute work deadlines coming in just as you're leaving—it's a lot. I broke, and I was lucky enough to find help. I want to make that help available to anyone who needs it, and I'd like to explore what that might look like."

One rainy walk with the programme's therapist, Paul, planted the seed for him to start running again. Over time, he eventually built up to 22km and last weekend, to say thank you and raise vital funds for Tottenham Talking, Robert dressed in a shocking pink wig and tutu ran the iconic Big Half Marathon. By the time he crossed the finish line, in an impressive 1hr 51 mins, he'd raised an amazing £3,333, far beyond his target.

He's now aiming for £5,000 by the end of September to keep Tottenham Talking’s doors open for anyone in need, but he's not stopping there. He and his family will next take on the Vitality Mile together — with Robert walking it in a wedding dress, thanks to his wife’s bridal business declaring September Mental Health Awareness Month. So, say yes to the mess and back him.

Huge congratulations to Robert! We're so grateful to him for raising much-needed funds for Tottenham Talking, so we can continue to support people during difficult times in their lives and help them know they're not alone.
