About the Project

We’ve been working with Mind in Haringey and five local organisations to organise community activities to improve Haringey residents’ mental health and wellbeing. The programme has been running since 2022 and has supported over 1,000 residents from across the borough.

Improving Haringey residents' mental health and wellbeing

Meet the community organisations

Each of the community groups organise regular wellbeing activities that residents enjoy and look forward to. These activities are having a positive effect on residents’ mental wellbeing.

Community Cook Up

A community action group based in Northumberland Park. They provide emergency food and clothing support, as well as other activities such as digital support. They also organise community events for local residents.

They organise a weekly Wednesday wellbeing session at Northumberland Park Neighbourhood Resource Centre (N17 0HJ).

A Community Cook Up participant said, “I look forward to coming every week, it’s good to have routine. I go to a lot of drop ins. I like this one best.”

House of Polish & European Community (HoPEC)

A community organisation working to improve the well-being, inclusion, and rights awareness of Polish and other European migrants living in the UK.

HoPEC holds a regular traditional coffee morning on Tuesdays at Wood Green Library, N22 6XD.

“Thanks to HoPEC, I have the opportunity to spend a nice time at Monday meetings. I can learn interesting things there on workshops and get support in conversations with other people.”

Sewn Together is based at Chestnuts Community Centre (N15 5BN) and offers a variety of weekly wellbeing activities which include:

  • Multi-Craft & Conversation on Tuesdays

Turkish Cypriot Community Association

Providing culturally, linguistically, and religiously sensitive support to Turkish Cypriot, Turkish, Kurdish, and Greek Cypriot communities across the country since 1976.

TCCA organises weekly Monday and Friday coffee mornings for elderly Haringey residents. These take place at their Green Lanes office (N8 0SD).

At Christmas, the TCCA group had a "lovely time singing and dancing while eating a nutritious lunch".

You vs You

Supporting and empowering young refugees and asylum seekers living in Haringey. They offer young men, who have endured harrowing and traumatic experiences, a place to meet fellow young people with similar experiences, offer peer support, and build their lives together.

You Vs You organises a monthly wellbeing activity, Social Connect. These often take place at The Trampery Tottenham (N17 8AA).

You vs You reported that “95% of participants felt they now have a regular routine and realise they have the ability to achieve their goals as individuals.”
