Youth Echo

Welcome to Youth Echo

Youth Echo is a three-year programme funded by the City Bridge Foundation through the Propel Grant, designed to put young people at the heart of change in Haringey. The programme aims to empower young people to lead system change actions to tackle roots causes of racial inequity and interrelated poverty and violence through targeted actions

Working in partnership with North London Partnership Consortium and the Godwin Lawson Foundation, Youth Echo amplifies the voices of young people from Black and Minority Ethnic communities, supporting them to influence the systems and services that shape their lives. From health and education to employment and community safety, we create spaces where young people are not just heard, but actively shape solutions.

Through social action projects, mentoring, and pathways into employment, we equip young people with the skills, confidence, and opportunities to lead. The result is a growing movement of empowered young people driving meaningful change across their communities; their voices are not only valued, but impossible to ignore.

"I feel Youth Echo is an amazing approach in Haringey and one that is very unique in terms of how young people can be referred and offered support. I have found the team extremely kind, open, and transparent about what the goals are... Your team listens to the real concerns of young people in the community."

Great storytelling starts with great interviewing skills!

Join our next HYON workshop, to learn how to conduct confident, empathetic interviews with young people that uncover powerful stories and demonstrate the impact of your work.

The workshop will be delivered by Mile 91.

Mile 91 is an organisation with over 20 years of experience of telling engaging, impactful stories. Through their programme of training they have helped develop the story-gathering skills of staff, partners, volunteers and service users across charities, sustainability teams, unions, funders, academic institutions and other social change organisations

Through their approach, they have supported organisations to audit their work, and establish strong systems and processes for story gathering and co-creation.

Meet our facilitator:

Catherine Raynor set up the Mile 91 story team as an international development charity in 2006. Since then she has helped many organisations develop their story strategy and establish the systems and processes needed to run an effective content gathering function. She is quick to identify barriers to productivity and helps teams break down silos.

During this workshop, you will learn how to:
  • Ask effective questions that uncover authentic stories
  • Build rapport and create the right conditions for a strong interview
  • Support interviewees sensitively, including when difficult experiences are shared
  • Capture compelling stories for written or film content
